  • A large room of about 350-950 square feet would require a potency of around: 9,800 to 12,500 BTU

The Air from The AC Unit Isn’t Cold

So, your AC Unit does turn on and at first, everything seems fine… But soon you notice that the air that is coming out of your appliance isn’t cold. How can you fix this? Firstly, make sure that all of the vents are open and check if the thermostat is set properly. If the AC is still not working, you want to check if the air filter is clogged with dirt or other debris. If that is the case you can simply clean the filter with mild soap and water to get the air flowing again. Remember to clean and change the filter regularly, so you can avoid this problem in the future. Furthermore, check to see if there is ice on the coils. If so, turn the fan on so it melts.

Another reason might be that there is a problem with the fan or the fan motor. There could be a leak in the refrigerant line that stops the electricity from getting to the motor. In this case, you should consult one of or professionals to help you.

The Air Conditioner is Leaking

If your AC is working and your apartment cools down as wished but you find a small lake underneath it, the drain line might be clogged. Again, the first step for you is to clean the air filter and see if that solves the problem. If that doesn’t help, you should find out where the water is coming from. If it is coming from the front of your appliance it might be possible that the unit wasn’t installed correctly. Get help from a professional as the unit has to be taken out and get installed properly.

If the water is coming from somewhere else, you should check if you can feel any resistance in the tubes that are leading from the unit. They might be clogged with dirt or debris that you need to clean as the water needs to move.

Modern AC units come with an emergency shutoff feature that will shut the device off when the drain line is clogged to protect the device. So, if you are experiencing a sudden shutdown, cleaning the tubes might be the solution to your problem.
